With all the decorations, television ads, and carols on the radio, it’s not hard to tell that the holidays are upon us. Before you know it, we will all be scouring the malls, trying to come up with the perfect gift idea, or at least cross another thing off of our lists.

But as we all know, more gifts often mean more clutter in our homes. In many situations, more “stuff” is the last thing any of us needs in our space. This year, when you are shopping for your loved ones, rather than buying another thing that may go unused, think about purchasing a gift that will help you and your loved one make memories together. Think presence, not presents. There are a number of gifts of activities that many of those on your holiday list would be thrilled to have. How about:

  Give a gift of your presence instead of a present – make memories without the clutter

You could also pass on a tradition, like teaching someone you love about baking, sewing, knitting, or scrap-booking. You can pass on a skill and perhaps learn about a mutual hobby at the same time.

Another idea would be to adopt a family for the holidays, and rather than buying gifts for each other, purchase things that your adoptive family needs. You could also donate to a charity in the name of someone special on your gift list.

There are many creative and imaginative gifts that don’t require giving stuff. You can have fun with your loved ones without creating more clutter in your home.
